Caribou Coconut Carriers Limited
The next time you are standing in a bakery and looking at that delicious coconut cake, think of these three men and the caribou. These coconut farmers in rural Barangay Baras, Leyte, Republic of the Philippines put their harvest into the bamboo sled pulled by the caribou. July 31, 2012, the caribou made several trips to the field for the sled to be filled with coconuts. There are many coconut trees in the Philippines, especially in Leyte. Thus, there is always a chance that when you open that can of coconut milk or a package of coconut to bake a cake that the coconut in that container grew as a nut in the top of a coconut tree that one of these men put in the sled to begin the journey to your store or bakery. Since I find buildings interesting, check my blog often because I like experimenting with different kinds of photography and I really haven’t done much “Architectural Photography” through the years.
I find “Home Construction In The Philippines” unique because while you have the obvious tropical climate weather concerns of hot temperatures and frequent hard monsoon rains you also factor in what you can afford in terms of budget and add in the availability of building materials and you end up with an overall design. The 400 years of Spanish influence and the 1900s US Army Corps of Engineers building style gets reflected not only in government buildings, but in homes as well.
One major difference in “island construction” over “continent construction: is in the Philippines, homes go up, while in the US homes go out — thus, in the Philippines, homes have a second or third floor, while homes in the US sometimes just spread out over a piece of real estate to have the whole floor plan of the home devoted to a single, first floor.

As it is said, the devil is in the details… And that couldn’t be more true right here. Having said that, allow me inform you just what exactly did deliver the results. Thank you. You are correct “The Devil Is In The Details.” With the Caribou Coconut Camera Limited photo cutline, I was going after an idea. I watched the Filipino coconut farmers climbing trees and picking up the coconuts that they had knocked out of the trees. They were just normal guys doing the best to earn a living and a day’s wage. Then, I got thinking about the men and women in their air conditioned offices on Wall Street or at the Chicago Board of Trade, who glance down and see the word “coconut” as simply a commodity to be traded on the world stock markets. The movers and shakers talk their percentage points, but, I doubt they ever put a face with the actual production of that “commodity.”
The men going up and down the coconut trees seemed a real world exhibition of the “rising” and “falling” prices of the global stock markets. Maybe, in my literary zeal I didn’t unite the ideas as well as I should have.

I’m a writer and a photographer. I write my stories. I shoot the majority of the photos. Sometimes I used Public Domain photos.
There is probably copyright software out there to catch the rip-off artist, but I don’t know what it is.
I have my system set up to warn the rip-off artist that articles are protected by the Creative Commons License. Most of the photos I put out there are for FREE ad Public Domain use.
Overall I believe Wisdom and Knowledge should be shared. Since I’m not publishing my own “Harry Potter” novel series online I don’t have a need for lawyers.
I write for people to read and think. I put photos out there for people to use. If I am in my Hemingway Novel For All Time mode then it will be obvious that the words are protected, licensed and copyrighted. If I am in my Matthew Brady mode then it will be obvious that the photo is protected and copyrighted.
Overall, I like people.
If I didn’t like people I would of went to Law School became a lawyer and figured out how to make people miserable and make myself rich. Life is too short for that kind of greed.
Life should be about sharing and trying to help people. I try. If I every think I have a Novel for the Ages or a Pulitzer Prize photo for eternity then I will do the legal beagle lawyer routine.
Until then.I write for people to read. I put photos out there for them to use.

There really isn’t muh more to say. These are Filipino coconut farmers. When the time to harvest is right. They climb the trees and knock out the coconuts. The muddy soil you could bury a pickup up to the axle in mud. Plus sometimes gravity drops a coconut, you could loose a pickup windshield and have dents in the hood and cab. Caribous are cheaper than pickups. Their bamboo sleds are essentially farm trailers without tires and license plates – a great example of form and function. If your home is too close to a coconut tree sometimes you heard a thud when gravity drops a nut on your roof. Sam
