by Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Brooms have been pushed and the residue of The Election of 2012 is now in the dumpsters waiting to be hauled to the nearest city dump or recycling center.

In the Ozarks, The Day After An Election, Stone County, Missouri Old Timers, would laugh and joke, “Time to get out the picks and shovels because there are a lot of graves to dig today.” The purpose of the political joke was to poke fun at the politicians who “lost” an election and remind people that it was time to get back to work.

Good Day, Mr. President.”

Now, that “The Election” is over, President Obama can get back, “On The Job.”

In the Republic of the Philippines, the US Election has been covered for the last two days. The first announcements were the standard, “And The Winner Is.”

The United States Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines made his speech to say that President Obama had been re-elected.

News crews tracked down the happy “Democrats Abroad USA” chapter in Manila and got their reactions of sheer joy.

One man gave a beautiful quote of how he spent four days in Colorado knocking on doors and talking to people: “I told them I came 8,000 miles to ask them to vote for the Democrats and President Obama.”

Today, November 8, 2012 – The Philippine news media is looking at the US Election and comparing how Democracy works in the US and how Democracy works in the Philippines.

The news coverage is optimistic that President Obama is going to work on the Immigration policy in America.

I’m optimistic that President Obama knows that “The American People have his back” and support him in his efforts to move domestic and foreign policy forward, in an effort to rebuild the US Economy.

Election Fallout

Most people shrug their shoulders and get on with their lives.

For people, who are passionate and devoted massive amounts of time and effort to an election, the days following a loss is a period of readjustment. If your candidate lost, you can feel “let down.” You wonder if there was something else that you could of done ?

In America, we like to believe that “We are Good Losers.” We are not.

Sportsmanship

The idea of “Sportsmanship” says that the losers should be able to congratulate the winners and forget the game or the election.

The Sportsmanship idea is a good idea, but, it is not realistic — when people devote time, effort and energy to a cause people expect a positive result.

______________________________________________________________________

If every American in America and overseas would devote one tenth of the energy they normally waste on sports to watching politicians, America would have the most informed, pro-active, action-oriented democracy on the face of the planet. “

Competition

America’s National Cultural Philosophy

In America, the loss after an election can be a heavy weight to the individual because from the time you are a toddler in America you are taught to “Compete.”

You step out the door in the morning on your way to school and you are in the “Competition” mode. The “Competition” philosophy teaches you are suppose to “Win” at all costs. “Loss” is never acceptable in the American cultural psychology.

Dog Eat Dog”

Americans are the most competitive people on the planet.

We are taught “The World Is Dog Eat Dog.”

We, Americans are taught, “You Pull Yourself Up By Your Bootstraps.”

Loss” and coming in second place is really “Unacceptable” in the American culture.

Look at the History of American Political Candidates, especially since the end of World War II – “How many men who “Lost” their first run for “The White House” were able to come back and make a successful second try ?”

There are some candidates. As the years moved toward the 21st Century the ability for a defeated candidate to make a successful second run for “The Oval Office” is now a “long shot.”

Second Try ?

Face it – No one wants to gamble on “A Loser.” If a candidate “Lost” in an election for president, then, supporters are reluctant to rally around for a second run at The White House. The same idea seems to be coming true for gubernatorial races as well.

Elections involve massive effort and advertising is never cheap – tons of money has to be raised to buy print ads, radio ads and television ads.

The Citizens’ Feelings

The people who voted and “Got” their candidates will be feeling good that “Their Vote Counted.”

The people who voted and didn’t get their candidates elected will feel the sense of “Loss” and wonder if they did something wrong or is “The System” broke.

I think “The System” is broke.

It was broke in 2000 and in 2004 and still hasn’t been fixed.

My “Man” got elected. I’m happy.

Democracy is not a perfect process, but, it is the best government system currently in place around the world.

Democrats And Republicans

I had friends back in the United States, who shrug their shoulders and say, “There really is no difference between the Democrats and Republicans.”

My friends are wrong.

I have Texas relatives, who were Democrats and after an election – win or lose, they seemed able to get back to the business of The Real World.

I grew up in Stone County, Missouri – one of the most hardcore, devout Republican counties in the United States of America.

Republicans are NOT Good Losers.

For days and months after an election, Stone County Republicans and many average citizens would whine and complain about those “Damn Democrats !”

United States Seventh District Congressman Dewey Short was born and raised in Galena, Missouri, so it is natural that ,the county seat of Stone County should give Republicans “The Benefit Of The Doubt.”

Since the death of Congressman Short, the national Republican party or the Missouri Republican Party has not went out of their way to “court” Stone County voters in any way, so it is amazing that Stone County remains “a one party system.”

The Importance Of Politics

After an election, many Americans put away their election year memorabilia and will not bother to think about politics until the next leap year presidential election draws near.

Americans forget Politics is a 24-hour a day, 365-day a year business because the decisions that get made in Washington D.C., and the 50 state capitols affect your day to day life and always reach into your wallet.

For a democracy to truly work the citizens really do have to be informed. You do have to pay attention to what the elected officials are up to. You have to look beyond the rhetoric, the propaganda, the bickering to get newspaper headlines and on camera television interviews and decide for yourself what is truth and what is “party propaganda.”

Many Americans get all wrapped up in all kinds of sports and can quote all kinds of sports statistics. But, a game is just a game. Next week, next month or next year there will be another game.

The Super Bowl, The World Series are all big sporting events in the United States, but no quarterback raises your annual property tax and no batter is going to get Americans National Health Care.

If every American in America and overseas would devote one tenth of the energy they normally waste on sports to watching politicians, America would have the most informed, pro-active, action-oriented democracy on the face of the planet. “ – Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Now that the election is over, keep an eye on that councilman, Congressman, Senator, Governor and other elected official.

It will be easy to keep an eye on the president because there is the White House website and legions of international news media that will be watching The Oval Office.

Keep an eye on the daily newspaper headlines and Internet news stories. Watch what the politicians are saying and doing. Now, that President Obama has won re-election he can be devoted to fixing the US Economy.

The senators and congressman that were critical of the president going into the election should all be singing a different song now. Some of those officials have their “own” re-elections to worry about, so they will want to be seen as “helping the president” and not a resistant “stick in the mud” that will try to cause problems.

Party Platforms

The Democrats and the Republicans have their party platforms posted on line for people to read.

Democrats traditionally favor the “working people.” People who really do have to “work” for a living, which means jobs that involve manual labor like farming, construction and the “break a serious sweat” occupations.

Republicans traditionally favor the “wealthy people.” People who may have “earned” their fortunes or the ones that “inherited” their money from their family.

Republicans like to be called the G.O.P., because it sounds “catchy” and Americans love initials and abbreviations. The term GOP stands for “Grand Old Party” and dates back to the time of “The American Civil War.”

However, when I use the term G.O.P., for Republicans, it refers to “Greedy Oil Politicians” and how the GOP always seems more than willing to keep America depend on Middle East Oil.

State Rights

Republicans claim to be “State Rights” oriented, which means states are suppose to decide the majority of issues in their state capitols and the federal government is essentially suppose to stick to providing a military force, printing and coining currency and negotiating foreign treaties.

The theory is that the Federal Government is suppose to be an umbrella and not hardwired into American homes. Yet, after 9/11 the Republican Administration created the Department Of Homeland Security at the federal level to get intrusive when needed.

Centralized Government

Democrats have always favored a centralized federal government. Democrats realize some problems have to be handled at the federal level.

States can issue their driver’s licenses, but, do Americans really want each state to have to issue Passports and Visas ? Imagine 50 different passports and 50 different visas, each with different categories of visas and requirements for the visas.

National Healthcare

American Healthcare has to be done at the National Level. Otherwise, you end up with 50 different plans with different requirements that can change from county to county and parish to parish. Wealthier states can offer more types of coverage than other states.

A woman in Alaska might not need or want “Breast Enhancement Surgery” while in Hollywood that type of cosmetic surgery might be considered crucial, thus, a national policy can address these issues, while states might tend to ignore or “cut” these health services.

Policy Issues

All Americans should realize that, like it or not, “Politics” affects your day to day lives. If you ignore the issues, then, you let the politicians make the rules. They don’t always put things on the ballot to be voted on. Keep an eye on your politicians – make them earn their paychecks.

America has lobby groups that are always out wining and dining the politicians. Some of those lobby groups may not support the same issues that you consider important. Keep your eye on changing issues because if you don’t voice, email, telephone or telegraph your elected officials – the lobbyist wins.

Congress Of The United States Of America

I am an American.

I have a birthright to complain.

In numerous articles and political editorials I “beat up” on Congress. They can take it; they are “Big Boys And Girls.” If they have “thin skin”, then, that person needs to find a new job.

I do respect Congress.

Since the 1970s though, I have lost a lot of respect for Congress. Since the 1970s, Congress seems only capable of trying to stop a president from doing something or becoming a “bunch of mindless groupies chasing after a president and granting his every wish”

In the 1970s, Congress did have the “guts” to press the Watergate Hearings and try to get to the bottom of the issue.

Congress did try to nail down “The Iran Contra Affair.”

Congress from 2000 through 2008 acted like “excited school girls chasing after a teen idol and not capable of making their own decisions.” Congress from 2000 through 2008 seemed “A Rubber Stamp For A Republican Administration”

Members of Congress, should be honored to serve the American people. Members of Congress should realize that they to have to answer to the American people – it is called “The Ballot” and gets used every four years/

The United States Supreme Court

Lawyers in black robes. When I was a boy, I respected the United States Supreme Court.

As an adult, I don’t really have any faith and very little respect left for this arm of government.

They are suppose to “Protect, Defend And Translate The Constitution Of The United States Of America.”

From 2000 through 2008, the Supreme Court acted more like Mafia thugs protecting the Godfather, rather than a judicial body that answered to the people.

On the bright side, the majestic building is a beautiful piece of architecture.

Support the President

Now, that President Obama is back at his desk in The Oval Office, I hope that Congress will work with him to rebuild the US Economy.

I doubt the US Supreme Court will do anything to help rebuild the US Economy.

But, if they become “TOO big” an obstacle – President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Democrat, was accused of “Packing The Court.”

President Obama, the Democrat, is the former Constitutional Law professor . Perhaps, the time has come to “Unpack The Court.”

America is a Democracy.

To keep that Democracy “On The Job,” keep an eye on your elected officials.

Choose one of the parties and get involved.

Sam

Day After The  Election 2012

The

Miracle

Happens !

Official Photo of the White_House_North_Portico_Photo in the Public Domain

By Samuel E. Warren Jr.

I am shocked !

I am stunned !

I am amazed !

I am in shock !

I woke up at 3:45 p.m., today, and powered on the laptop.

I had spent the night trying to overcome the International Date Line time difference between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America. I used the Google search engine of my Firefox browser to surf to the Associated Press, Reuters, ABC News, CBS News, the BBC, CNN, Google News and Yahoo News websites.

I read so many stories on the presidential election campaign of 2012 that my eyeballs hurt.

I would look at the digital readout of the clock on my laptop, glance up at the clock on the wall and then look at a story and try to decide if Americans in the United States were still voting or had the polls closed and the count of ballots begun.

On the Yahoo News website they were thoughtful enough to post a “Polls Countdown Clock” that ticked off the hours until the first polls closed.

I had told my wife, Christy, “President Obama is going to be a ‘One Hit Wonder.’” This is one of the few times in my life that I am proud I was wrong.

November 6, 2012, I got up at 5 am.

The last time I “intentionally” got up at 5 am. I wore the uniform of the United States Air Force.

Since I retired, the sun has my permission to rise ever how early it wishes. Roosters in the Philippines love to crow, so the Rhode Island Reds usually start crowing about 30 minutes before the sun actually begins to rise.

I had got up early to log on to the laptop and try and find out, “How is Election Day going in the Good Ole’ USA.” I saw the traditional photos of voters standing in line waiting to vote. Those pictures tell you nothing – everyone knows there are a lot of people in the world.

The Election Day Photo

Go through old newspapers and magazines from the day the first camera was invented and you always find a variation of “The Election Day Photo.” It is an old, tired, photo idea, but, the reason it always works is “Democracy.”

Only In A Democracy

Only in a democracy, do you have people, who are willing to stand out in the bitter cold and damp to vote. Only in a democracy, do you have people, who sweat, perspire and are obviously in discomfort in sweltering heat to vote.

Only in a democracy do people stumble over the rubble of a natural disaster to make their way to a polling place to cast their ballot.

Only in a democracy, do officials realize they may have to open the polls early, set up a polling place in another area, provide transportation to get voters to a polling place or be willing to keep a polling place open later than usual, so voters can vote.

Only in a democracy is a voter willing to endure the worst Life has to offer for the simple act to cast your ballot.

The Defense Defense

Online, I read the news stories of how America’s “National Dog And Pony Show” of 2012 – The Presidential Campaign had been the traditional Republican, “The Democrats Are All Bums” and how, of course, the Democrats replied, “The Republicans Are All Bums.”

In the middle of all the political rhetoric and “name calling” there were facts like President Obama was set to cut money from the Defense Budget.

Never a smart move for an American president to put on the public record in an election year because the Defense Industry in the US employs many Americans and helps to put food on the table.

Plus, you have many Americans in uniform at home and abroad and that message is always understood as a lack of support from The White House.

Of course, you have us, old retirees and veterans, who wonder if the president remembers that the United States Armed Forces do as much to “protect the peace of the world” as they do to stand ready to respond to a global crisis.

The catch, of course, is everyone wants their share of the pie. Congressmen and senators had the concerns of their states and districts, which are funded government programs that supply paychecks back in their voting districts.

Who gets the slices of the pie and who gets the crumbs ? When you prioritize government programs, in peace time, standing armies can be downsized and bases closed. World history documents the “feast and famine” conditions that always relate to military forces worldwide. Thus, military forces are usually one of the first of government programs that feel the budget ax.

REPUBLICAN ELEPHANT PIN FACE RIGHT

Wall Street Courts Romney

I read on through the various news stories. Wall Street was behind the Republican Mitt Romney – that was a “No Brainer.”

There are poor people in the United States, who claim to be Republican. Go to Stone County, Missouri and stop anyone on the street and nine times out of ten, they will stick out their chest and tell you, “I am a Republican.”

Newsflash – If you ain’t got money; you ain’t “a Republican.”

You can claim to be a Republican until you are blue in the face, but if you don’t have money – you ain’t a Republican.

The Republican Party takes pride in telling the World, “We are America’s Business Party.” Back in 1854, American businessmen could not get the stubborn American farmers – the Democrats – to change their minds on political issues. The short-lived Democratic Republican Party split and the Republicans went off and created their “business party.” – the Republicans.

Republicans Businessmen  REPUBLICAN ELEPHANT PIN_btn_gop

Of course, the Republicans are a business party – but, that can also mean from time to time in American history they have given “the American people the business.”

It is no surprise then that American millionaires, American billionaires and wealthy Americans are always quick to reach in their wallets and whip out their registered “Republican” card.

Pull out your US History books and look at how quickly Republican candidates for President and Republican presidents are in their devotion “Not to tax the wealthy” or how quickly they work to find a way not to raise taxes on the wealthy.

Democrats Blue Collar Workers

Democrats began as “The Grange Party.” They were the farmers of American, who left the fields and livestock long enough to pass laws to keep people working. Once upon a time the Congress Of The United States Of America only convened three months out of the year and they actually did work.

Some Democrats have actually became wealthy. But, The Democrats began as “America’s Blue Collar Party” because they “worked” for a living. The sweat and roll your sleeve up mentality still lives in the Democrat Party.

MULE PIN FACE RIGHT

Who Cleans Up The Mess ?

The true irony of American history is while Republicans always claim to champion business for America; it is always the Democrats, who “clean up the mess.”

Democrat President Andrew Jackson was the first American president to “Balance The Budget Of The United States Of America.” Democrat President Woodrow Wilson instituted the New York Stock Exchange – Wall Street’s reason to live and make money. Democrat President Woodrow Wilson also started the Federal Reserve System, where the banks of America go to get the money – the banks no longer want to loan to Americans. Democrat President FDR took America “Off The Gold Standard”, ordered the establishment and construction of Fort Knox, “America’s Vault” at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Democrat President FDR instituted numerous programs from the National Recovery Act to the Tennessee Valley Authority, Workers’ Progressive Administration and Youth Conservations Corps to get Americas working after Republican President Herbert Hoover sat on his leister as a self-made millionaire and former United States Secretary Of Commerce and watched the United States slip into The Great Depression as jobs disappeared, Americans lost their farms and homes and more than a million tons of top soil blew out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Democrat President Harry S. Truman, of The Show Me State Of Missouri, “ENDED” World War II.

Truman’s “Exit Strategy” the Atomic Bomb saved the lives of Allies.

Democrat President Harry S. Truman “Stopped” Japan’s Economic Conquest Of Asia that had been going on relentlessly from around the 1930s as Japan would conquer or attempt to conquer her neighbors and seize control of their natural resources and citizens. Japan didn’t need the citizens; Japan did need the natural resources.

General Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower retired from the United States Army and was persuaded by the Republicans to run for President.

The Republicans took The White House and controlled the Congress of the United States of America for many years.

Republican Senator Joseph Raymond “Joe” McCarthy started the whole “Communist Paranoia” in America that would spiral out of control and take advantage of “The Cold War” idea that pitted generations of Americans against “The Russians” and “The Communist Chinese”.

Generations of Americans lived under “The Constant Fear Of The A Bomb And The Inter Continental Ballistic Missile Scare” that either the Americans, Russians or Chinese would accidentally or on purpose launch a nuclear missile that would start “Mutual Annihilation and Destruction.”

MAD

MAD was an old government Cold War policy that was the “Worst Case Scenario” for humanity. Regardless, who actually launched the first nuclear missiles, the MAD policy outlined a level of Apocalypse and Armageddon that would be the end of earth.

80 Times Over ?

One of the weirdest Cold War statistics was the claim that the amount of nuclear weapons detonated on earth would be sufficient to “kill the planet 80 times over.”

How do you kill anything “80 times”, when the first time is sufficient?

The Communism Versus Democracy Turn The Cold War Into The Ultimate Nuclear War Fear” lingered until the Berlin Wall started to come down and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics disappeared and became Russia in the early 1990s.

The Republican Party always claimed that the fat Cold War Defense Budgets were for America’s Defense. Government spending rose from the 1950s through the end of the Cold War.

What ever happened to the credit unions ?

Everyone forgets the collapse of Savings and Loans and Credit Unions in the United States because those bankruptcies and failures did not trigger a depression.

Americans don’t look at the party in The White House during the cycles of “Inflation” and “Recession” in the 1970s and 1980s.

Democrat President William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton became the second Democrat President in United States History to “Balance The Budget Of The United States Of America.”

Of course, once that fact ended up in newspaper headlines, senior Republicans rushed to the nearest media outlets to try and sneak into the spotlight and make “the lame claim” that President Clinton could not of balanced the budget without them.

Democrat President Bill Clinton left America with “A Fat Wallet.” America had “Money In The Bank” when Democrat President Bill Clinton left The White House.

The Republicans’ Florida Supreme Court President Awarded The White House

The Republican, then sent their so-called “Candidate Awarded The Presidency Based On The Florida Supreme Court System” and a bunch of messed up voting machines to The White House. Two Wars and a Bankrupt United States Economy later, the Republicans step back and let Democrat President Barrack Obama try to “clean up the mess.”

No one could “clean up the mess”, the Republicans left behind.

That Republican Administration succeeded in getting America’s friends and neighbors to think of the United States as some kind of “Arrogant Overbearing World Power Bent On Global Control Of Every Country On The Globe” and “publicly” divided the world into “US And Them.”

The sensible message of standing up to and combating global terrorism came down to a childish claim of “If you don’t help the United States beat up on these big, old, bad, mean, terrorists types then we are going to take our toys and go home. If you are not with us, then, you must be with them.”

To my knowledge, know parent has ever turned their full grown son, a supposed president, over their knee and spanked their little behind – but, here was a case, where the politician either needed to be taken to the “wood shed” or locked away in an asylum and Amendment 25 Of The Constitution Of The United States activated to allow the vice president to assume the duties of The Oval Office.

This Republican Administration took more than 200 years of history, international good will and hard work of generations of Americans and “threw out the baby with the bath water.” President Obama, definitely came to Washington D.C., with a ‘national mandate’ from the American people to restore the sanity and respect of America.

I had wanted President Obama to come to office like a new FDR “busting heads and taking names” to get the US Economy out of the dumpster.

The Nice Guy President  DEMOCRAT MULE PIN FACE LEFT

His first four years, President Obama was “The Nice Guy” with the Congress of the United States. The former Constitutional Law professor allowed Congress to treat him like a child who had wandered away from his parents as they simply brushed him on his way down the hall of the US Capitol.

My hope, this time, is President Obama talks to Congress and reminds them: “Ladies and Gentlemen, there are 435 of you with your staffs. That is 435 elections where voters vote for you.

Unless, you do something really stupid to get your name in the newspapers or on television, most of the American people will never even realized you warmed a seat in Congress.

I, on the other hand, am Barrack Obama, every American in America knows my name and many know my face. If, as members of Congress you do not work with me to rebuild the United States Economy – Americans will blame me.

This time, ladies and gentlemen of Congress, you WILL work with me. We are going to rebuild The Economy Of The United States Of America.

The President

And, you ARE going to help me. Every American in the 21st Century can pickup a newspaper, magazine or login to the Internet and see their president. They know I am responsible.

The American people know I am the man they voted to do the job. You, ladies and gentlemen are the members of Congress. I am Barrack Obama. I, Ladies and gentlemen, am “The President.’”

SEAL OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Go get them, Mr. President ! “

While I doubt President Obama uses those words to Congress – I truly hope that he is able to look the members of Congress in their eyes and let them know “playtime is over.”

I am shocked that President Obama won a second term.

I am grateful that the American people didn’t buy the traditional Republican rhetoric of “We Have A Plan.”

Of course, once a Republican Administration gets to The White House it seems the “Transition Plan” always comes down to “Fake It Till You Make It.”

My Faith In The Universe has been restored.

Make Congress “Work”

I was afraid American voters were not looking at Congress as the “sticks in the mud” that had reverted to the President Carter Era tactic of “gridlock” to stop projects and keep government deadlocked and stalled.

The American people call for change. Congress, The Reluctant Rip Van Winkles, snooze, snore, take their naps, yawn, and every now and then, actual wake up long enough to “do something” to keep “The System” functioning.

I am proud the American people realize that the president is trying to wake up the sleeping bureaucrats long enough for them to keep the country running.

The Miracle Happened.

The American people had Faith in their president.

Now, Mr. President, with the American people behind you – “Wake Up Congress And Get Them Working.”

The Worser Of Two Evils A Democrat Overseas Political Editorial

Rewind 1972

The Worser of Two Evils

The Election of 2012

by Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Goodbye, President Obama !

Mitt Romney has the nomination for the Republican Candidate for President of the United States of America.

Big Whoop !

President Obama does not deserve to win re-election. Mitt Romney is just another in a long list of rich Republicans, who seeks to warm the seat in The Oval Office.

Neither Obama or Romney deserves to be:

“The President Of The United States Of America.”

Talking Suits

President Obama and Mr. Romney are, “Talking Suits” – the 21st Century Version of Max Head Room Becomes President – a character gets some phrases to spit out of The Boob Tube and voters fall for it – Welcome to American Presidential Elections from 1964 through 2011.

President Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton all came to “The Oval Office” with a plan, which was obvious from Day One. The rest of the so-called presidents from 1964 on have been “winging it – on a broken wing.” Those presidents relied on their party to get them elected and the party came through.

Popularity Contest

In 1960, the Campaign for President of the United States Of America became a “Popularity Contest.” Political strategists knew the handsome United States Navy PT Boat Commander would win the hearts of women voters and men would want to be the handsome young Democrat, who turned ladies heads and had the strong family and the proud military tradition behind him.

It is highly unlikely without the Death of President Kennedy, that Lyndon Baines Johnson could come any closer to The White House than to be on a tour. LBJ was a tall, grandfather type man, whose presidential speeches are best used when you are out of sleeping pills and need a good night’s sleep.

Puppet People Presidents

The Popularity Contest strategy really hasn’t worked well since 1960, but, when the majority of candidates are “paper doll” characters with lackluster backgrounds and bureaucratic administrative skills, then, voters have to go with the “best guess” theory, which always leaves America with puppets, rather than presidents.

It is time for both parties to once again start looking for “Leaders” and not “Puppet People Presidents”

Alas, The Presidential Campaign of 2012 seems to be another “Ho-Hum, Dumb-Dumb Personality Contest.”

The Worser Of Two Evils American Presidential

Campaign 1972 and 2012

But, 2012 is really “The Presidential Campaign Of 1972 – Again – Press Play.”

“Welcome To The American Presidential “Worser Of Two Evils” Campaign.”

In 1972, the only real issue was the Vietnam War. The American people wanted it ended.

In 2012, the only real issue is the US and Global Economy. The American people want their Dollar to once again have value and be able to put groceries on the table, pay the gas, electric, heating bills and provide a retirement income.

War Election Campaigns

Wars are popular and easy campaign issues, the candidate unfurls an American flag, has his speech writers dash off some “wave the flag” patriotic speeches. The candidate does some photo ops with American military veterans and poses for pictures with active duty troops.

Come Election Day, Americans’ “Red, White and Blue Adrenalin” kicks in and they rush to the polls and cast their ballots for that “baseball playin’, apple pie eatin’, I love my Mother, drive a Chevrolet and “support our troops” candidate.

Of course, once the candidate is sworn in and on the job, American veterans and active duty military people are once again dumped into the political toy box, next to “the plastic green army men of yesteryear” to wait for another four years.

In 1972, Americans wanted a leader. One of the popular slogans of that election was “This is no election. We have to choose between the worser of two evils: Republicans or Democrats.”

The American people had lost faith in their so-called leaders and didn’t believe either party could end the War. The people were right.

“Vietnamization” was not and end to the War; it was an “auto-pilot” function that allowed “Tricky Dick” Nixon to do his own thing while the War ended by reducing the amount of money being sent to Vietnam and “orders” were cut to send US troops back home.

There was no “Exit” strategy to Vietnam and the only “Mission Accomplished” was to get “Tricky Dick” in the White House.

In 2012, Americans again want “a leader.”

America does not need another Party Puppet President ; America needs a Leader.

Neither party is up to the challenge.

Republican Presidential Solutions:

ALWAYS Taxes and War

American Republican Presidents have only two answers for any crisis that faced America in the 20th and early 21st Century. Taxes and War. Look at US History since the end of World War II – Republicans raise taxes or go to War. George H. W. Bush hit the lottery – he did both: he raised taxes and did the Kuwait thing.

In 1972, the Republicans outsmarted the Democrats the GOP pointed the finger at the Democrat and shouted, “Dove.” Americans freaked because they thought the Democrats would “surrender America” to end the War. “Tricky Dick” Nixon, of course, won by a landslide.

Bad President

In 2012, Republicans are ready to win. They have pointed the finger at President Obama and shouted, “bad president.”

Would someone care to remind the GOP of “George W. Bush and his Administration ? “

Two Wars and a busted US Economy under the Bush Administration – I would call that a “bad president.”

The US Economy started to unravel in October 2007, when the Baby Bush Administration was still holding court in Washington D.C.

Since that modern day Herbert Hoover Administration “propped” up the economy until Election Day, Americans “forgot: the financial sewer that was busting below ground and turning the American Dollar into play money.

President Obama’s Nice Guy Mistake

President Obama made the “President Jimmy Carter Mistake,” he came to Washington D.C., a nice guy and figured his fellow Americans were ready to get the country back on track.

In 2008, the American people thought they were voting for “A Gunslinger” or “A New Sheriff In Town.” What we got was a nice guy, who didn’t realize in a Crisis, some Americans step up and get busy. Some Americans have to know they are “out gunned” and the man or woman in charge is “In Charge !”

The American people in 2008 wanted a new “FDR” or a new “Harry S. Truman”, who wasn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get busy. President Obama thought “holding hands and singing “Onward Christian Soldier” would work.” It didn’t.

Take Charge”

President Obama needed to “Take Charge.” He didn’t. He let “America’s Clown College” – the Congress of the United States of America – once again, call the shots.

The Congress of the United States of America only worries about one thing – “Re-election.” Congress is a sweet job, tons of perks and the paycheck is so fat these days that Federal Law keeps the salaries of Congressmen and Senators from being known to the public.

Once a freshman Congressman or senator is elected, then, they can concentrate on “re-election.” The rest of the day to day business is simple: “Don’t Rock The Boat.” “Play The Game.”

The youngsters vote the way the old heads want them to and they learn how to keep getting re-elected until they retire or die in office.

The Congress of the United States is no longer a respective legislative body – it is a Federally subsidized Retirement Home For America’s Most Gifted Con Artists.

President Obama is unfortunately – finished.

If he want be re-elected he needs to find a way to deliver a biblical Miracle like walking on water or raising people from the dead because he never understood an American president is suppose to be “Presidential.”

Presidential

Guts And Gonads”

An American President is suppose to have the “guts and gonads” to stand toe to toe with Satan or God and be able to look both in the eyes and do what has to be done. 20th Century Presidents: FDR, Harry S. Truman, Dwight David Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton have all understood The President Of The United States Of America is at all times “Presidential.”

Presidential Pink Slip

The American People already know President Obama is a “One Hit Wonder.” American Democrats should realize President Obama has run his race and need to find a candidate in the ranks, who can and will do the job.

The ole “incumbency” routine is nice, when the person in charge is fighting the good fight and pushing for forward movement in public policy and the economy. President Obama is still letting Congress keep him manacled, shackled and under house arrest.

He is still playing “Nice Guy,” while the Republicans are in their Bastille mode and handing out pitchforks, shovels, hoes, mattocks and directions to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Democrats it may be unprecedented, but, to push America Forward the time has come to give President Obama his “pink slip” and find a Democrat, man or woman, who is “Presidential” and ready to do the job to get America moving.

American Republican Presidency In A Nutshell

More Taxes, More War

While President Obama is already yesterday’s news; Romney is a rich, conservative Republican, who will only have two choices as an American Republican president – raise taxes or go to War.

US History shows Republican presidents lack creativity and imagination. Republican Theodore Roosevelt was “Too Good A President” and the Republicans kicked the colonel out of their “tea party,” because he had too much individual initiative to get things done.

Ronald Reagan also had too much individual initiative to get things done. A Democrat, who crossed to the Dark Side and became a Republican. Reagan was on a roll – then, the Assassination Attempt happened.

US History, especially since the end of World War II, demonstrates that Republican presidents are “puppets,” who understand they are there to have their strings pulled. They can do their “photo ops” with everyone from the Boy Scouts to the Daughters of the American Revolution.

They can carefully manage their historical legacy to ensure they get a presidential library built in their name and have a future United States Navy aircraft carrier named after them – but, the Republican president can not stray too far from party policy otherwise he end up in the company of Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush as “bad economic presidents.”

Hollywood Heroes

President Ronald Reagan was the first American president who had been an actor before becoming president.

From the founding of America until around the time of the Civil War candidates for president were farmers or military leaders. When America, as a nation, moved from the farm to the city, the whole “Lame Lincoln Lawyer Sillyness” kicked in. Americans bought off that they needed professional paper pushers to run the presidency and Congress.

America’s Democrats and Republicans still look for the rise through the ranks lawyer types to run for president, especially since the end of 1964. Time have changed.

America needs Leaders in The White House and Congress, who can respond on the fly and no they have made the right decision.

Internet and computer gurus will probably be the next evolution of Leaders who rise to national leadership.

In 2012, Democrats and Republicans should look to Hollywood. Henry Fonda always came off “Presidential” in his movies. It is too bad he never campaigned for the office.

Democrats and Republicans should pay more attention to the movies.

Michael Douglas in “The American President” and Harrison Ford in “Air Force One” are two actors that I would rush to the polls to vote for.  Martin Sheen portrayed the “President Of The United States Of America” in the series, “The West Wing.”  Mr. Sheen is another actor that if he ran for president I would be anxious to cast my ballot for.

Actors who have portrayed a “President Of The United States,” I’m sure have a better understanding of the overall commitment of the office and the job than some lackluster lawyer.

Lights, Camera, Mr. President ! ”

Since American Presidential Elections are National Popularity Contest both parties should start looking at great American actors, who have earned the respect and admiration of generation of Americans, rather, than just another “lackluster lawyer.”

Plus, actors often portray people in the United States Armed Forces. Once upon a time, members of Congress would usually serve in the military, Few Congressmen or Senators any more serve on active duty, so an actor who portrayed somebody on active duty already has more “Time In Service” and “Time In Grade” that the members of Congress.

Casting offices hire the actors for their roles, thus, I’m sure if Democrats and Republicans keep wanting to do their “Transition Team” scenarios, there will be plenty of people, who can step up and do the job to support the president. Hollywood hires technical consultants for movies, they should be able to teach the Democrats and Republicans how to hire the people to do the job.

Democrats and Republicans, “Fire The Lawyers; Hire the Actors.”

The 2012 Choice ?

Thus, 2012 is stacking up like 1972 American voter have a Democrat and a Republican to vote for.

Like 1972, Americans can only expect the parties to change.

What is the November 2012 Election Day Choice ? Buy a dart board, label each area: Democrat or Republican. Throw your darts and see which party The Fickled Finger Of Fate chooses most often. Then, Election Day you can blame Fate and not have to blame yourself for not having a “Leadership Choice.

2013 Hoovervilles ?

In 2013, Americans will still be angry about a “Mosquito-Infested Standing Water Swamp Economy.” A new Republican president and his new Republican “groupie” Congress will only have the standard two choices: “Raise Taxes and Go To War.”

Beginning in 2013, American Voter’s livelihood and wallets will remain destined for “Hooverville.” If the Republicans take the White House and Congress, then, American Voters’ sons and daughters should start paying attention to the news to try and figure out the next “Vietnam” that they will be “drafted” to serve in.

You can go ahead and put away your crystal ball, while America won’t have any new proactive, on the job, responsible, action-oriented leadership in 2013 and beyond, at least, President Obama will get his presidential library and Americans can start planning the Mitt Romney Presidential Library.

What ever happened to “Leaders” who worked and campaigned

for “The Highest Office In The Land ?”

Samuel E. Warren Jr. Editor’s Note Epilogue

I had finished writing this editorial, August 31, 2012. I had began editing the copy, when the Samar-Leyte Earthquake happened. The lights went out. While the laptop still ran off battery power, I decided to put the editorial away and concentrate on the events of the moment. September 4, 2012, I went back and read over the copy before arriving at the final draft.

America needs Leadership. The Democrats and The Republicans have quit looking for “Leaders” and go for party people who look good in a business suit and in front of a TV camera.

The American Presidential Campaign of 2012 is 1972 revamped, but, unless either party can reveal a Leader before November, then, “The Worser Of Two Evils Campaign” will continue to unfold to another “Ho-Hum, Dumb, Dumb Election Day.
