Tropical Storm Ofel – October 24, 2012

Two Days Later . . .

by Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Two days after the storm, I took my camera and walked from Barangay Baras to Barangay Mohon. I also walked in the other direction. The cleanup was already underway. The scenes I found interesting I have put those photos in the attached photo album,

The Face Of Ofel

Tropical storm, “Ofel” packed a punch when it came to the winds and rain that fell on the island of Leyte, Wednesday, October 24, 2012. After I, Ramon and Ranyiel Saldana returned home, I stood on the porch for a few minutes and watched the storm unfold. I raised my Nikon D 100 and clicked off some photos of the storm in action.

The gray sky brought a lack of light which teased the digital camera’s focusing sensor set-up. Nonetheless, this photo shows the power of the tropical storm’s winds.

The photo below reveals how the lack of light created a photograph that seems more like an impressionistic painter’s brushstrokes. Nikon D 100 Photos by Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Homeless !

Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Tropical Storm Ofel blew across the island of Leyte, in the Republic of the Philippines. This home in Barangay Mohon was a casualty of the gale force winds that swept the island. Leyte Landing

68th Anniversary

October 20, 1944, United States Army General Dougas MacArthur and the official party waded ashore in the Leyte Gulf to begin “The Liberation Of The Philippines.”  Two Ausralian warships and warships of the United States Navy’s 3rd Fleet and 7th Fleet sailed toward the Philippine Islands to engage the Imperial Japanese Navy in “The Largest Naval Battle Of World War II “ and “The Largest Naval Engagement Of Human History To The Present” in these waters from October 23 through October 26 in “The Battle Of Leyte Gulf.”  On the 68th Anniversary, the statues of the MacArthur Landing Memorial remain resolute as Tropical Storm Ofel unleashes nature’s bombardment on the Leyte Gulf.  Nikon D 100 Photo by Samuel E. Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 007 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren JrToday, October 24, 2012 – I had been researching and working on an article for my blog since October 20 about “The Liberation Of The Philippines” and “The Battle Of Leyte Gulf.”

I needed some photos to go with my story. I could of used file photos that I had shot, but I wanted “fresh” photos. I decided last night, come “Hell Or High Water” I was going to get the photos. I never realized at the time what an “prophetic”description that phrase would be.

At the MacArthur Landing in Palo, Tanauan on the island of Leyte, the weather unleashed “Hell,: with a muddy brown sky and murky brown water that erased the horizon and created a backdrop of a muddy brown sky and murky brown water that delivered a hail of intense hard driving pellets of rain.

The “High Water” became the vicious ocean waves that were crashing over the lower sea wall beneath the MacArthur Landing Memorial.

Hell And High Water” arrived in the Leyte Gulf and her name, “Tropical Storm Ofel.”

In the morning, I had heard in passing about a tropical storm headed for Leyte. Typhoons in the Philippines are like Tornadoes in Missouri, you keep your eyes and ears open and stay aware of the developing weather conditions. If the weather goes bad, then, you cancel your plans for the day and do something else.

2_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 023 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

This morning, when we left Barangay Baras, on the island of Leyte, the skies were gray and everything was wet. The wind didn’t seem to be blowing all that bad around 10:30 a.m.

Tacloban City was the first stop on the itinerary. Naturally, I ran a few errands before I decided to go do my “photo shoot” at the statues in Palo.

By around noon, I came out of the Gaisano store and headed to the Santo Nino Church to pick up some flowers.

When a ship goes down at sea or an aircraft is lost at sea, people place a wreath upon the waves as a memorial tribute.

3_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 024 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr

World War II, the Pacific Ocean claimed many lives during the The Battle Of Leyte Gulf. It seemed placing a wreath of flowers on the water would be an appropriate way to salute the Allies soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen who perished in that battle.

4_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 028 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

Around 1 p.m., I stepped out of the vehicle into a hard rain. In a few minutes, every stitch of clothes I had on was saturated with water. The wind was strong. I walked toward the statues and wondered, “Maybe, I should come back tomorrow.”

5_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 030 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

I raised my camera and began shooting photos. Ramon and Ranyiel sat in the van and watched my every step into the weather.

It felt like something other than rain pelleted me. It fell like hail. It made it hard to keep your head up and look into the sky.

6_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 036 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

I had left the flowers in the vehicle to concentrate shooting the photos I had on mind. The cliché “Man Against The Elements” was a reality. I was drenched to my skin. The rain fell hard.

I used the wet shirt tail of my polo shirt to wipe off the water spots on the lens. Since I always keep a UV Filter on the lens of the camera any scratches end up on a $14 filter and not the more expensive lens.

The wind off the ocean kept pushing me farther inland. Still, I managed to move around enough to take the photos I had in mind. The wind, like an insistent mother, kept trying to move me. I finally clasped a hand to the chrome railing down a few steps to work my way down the side steps, since the wind was really trying to move things.

I looked up and watched it fall. Clang! One of the tall flagpoles beside the main flagpole fell straight down and the metallic clang echoed. I walked quicker, but more cautious to the vehicle.

I spent a few minutes, wiping off the camera lens. I was soaked through to the skin. I could not have gotten any wetter than if I had stepped into the ocean in my clothes. The height and violent nature of the waves made it obvious no one would be getting out into the Pacific Ocean today.

The Battle Of Leyte Gulf from Oct. 23 through October 26, 1944 had devastated “The Enemy”, 10,000 men, 27 ships, and the majority of their aircraft.

7_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 043 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

I had not been able to get a wreath of flowers, so I looked at the small bouquet. The bouquet of flowers were all I could offer to recognize the sacrifices of the Allies, who lost six ships and 2,800 men.

With my camera and the flowers I made my way back to the statues. The crashing waves of water against the lower sea wall made it evident, no one would get anywhere near the beach or Leyte Gulf today.

I stepped back and turned to go. I noticed the platform in front of the statues. I placed the flowers on the platform.

8_Tropical Storm Ofel MacArthur Landing Palo Tanauan Leyte 062 Nikon D 100 Photo by Sanuel E Warren Jr_resized

In honor of the men of the USS Gambler Bay and the other Allies ships and aircraft that disappeared beneath the waves, I left the flowers on the platform in front of the statues.

Editor’s Note

October 24, 2012 — We returned to Barangay Baras and learned the power had went out about 10 minutes before we got home due to the storm. No problem My Dell laptop had a three-hour charge on the computer battery. I put the Compact Flash card in the card reader and while the pictures downloaded to to the laptop’s hard drive, I began writing the story.

I wrote as fast as I could and double checked some of the facts on the Battle of the Leyte Gulf. Alas before I could finish the story, the laptop flashed the warning of low power and went out a few minutes later.

October 28 2012 – The power briefly come back on around 4:30 p.m., and only lasted about 20 minutes in Barangay Baras. A transformer blew in Barangay Cameri and wiped out the power in a total of six barangays

October 29. 2012 – The power in Barangay Baras came back about 7:45 p.m.

October 30. 2012 – The copy and photos finally finished for this article I finally get to publish it – on “My Birthday.”

World War I , in the 20th Century, taught the Citizens Of The World that War is Hell On Earth and no nation or person is “neutral.” World War I proved that War had evolved from nations with disagreements to a force that engulfs the world in a matter of days or hours.

World War II, in the 20th Century, taught the Citizens Of The World, Hell On Earth is always just aMV5BMTkzMDQxNzEyMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjcxMTAyMQ@@._V1._SX333_SY475_ heartbeat away.

The DVD cover shows Actor Gregory Peck in the role of General Douglas

MacArthur in the 1977 movie, “Mac Arthur.”

World War II divided the nations of the world into Us versus Them. World War II confirmed that any War, like fire, can quickly spread and engulf nations in a global holocaust that consumes everything in it’s path.

World War II’s Gift: The A Bomb is the constant reminder that when nations do not deal with issues, then, a violent force will always wait in the wings to settle those issues.

The A Bomb and nuclear weapons are not the threat – they are the reminder that when War becomes a global inferno, then, an Armageddon event is needed to end the War.

Every generation forgets or fails to learn : “The Eternal Lesson Of War is Hell On Earth demands you to find the courage to survive the death and destruction around you to survive and live your life.”

These were General Douglas MacArthur’s soldiers—the guys who fought America’s first battle of World War II. The Philippine Division. Probably the best trained and possibly the best prepared U.S. Army division at the outset of the war.”

In my lifetime, there has hardly been a day, when I did not pick up a newspaper, turn on the radio or TV or log on to the Internet to read about, yet, another – War.

War is eternal.

War is inevitable.

War is a major event of Human Life.

When The Citizens Of The World forget or ignore The Lessons Of War, then, the next War is only mere seconds away.

The Korean War happened too quickly after World War II for people to understand that World War II was the global event that should of taught The Citizens Of The World that War can be “The Extinction Event For Human Life.”

I admire the American Generals And Admirals of World War II because they knew there had to be a way to quickly end the global pain and suffering. Those military leaders and their troops fought to find a way.

I salute General Eisenhower, General Patton, General MacArthur, all the Allies military commanders and troops for the courage it took for them to wage the battles and campaigns needed to end World War II.

October 20, 2012 was the 68th Anniversary of the Leyte Landing. October 20, 1944, United States General of The Army Douglas MacArthur and Filipino leaders waded ashore at Palo, Leyte, near Tacloban City, Republic of the Philippines to begin the Liberation Of The Philippines.

Meanwhile, the Allies forces were gearing up in the waters of the Pacific for The Battle Of Leyte Gulf, which would become, “The Greatest Naval Battle In The History Of Global Naval Warfare,” in terms of the men, munitions, planes, bombs and ships available to be used to fight a battle at sea.

To date, “The Battle Of Leyte Gulf Is The Largest Naval Battle In The History Of The World.” The battle raged in the waters off the Philippine islands of Leyte and Samar from October 23 through October 26, 1944.

I have always envied General MacArthur because he kept his promise and set free a Pacific nation from the grip of a sadistic tyrant – Emperor Hirohito.

OCTOBER CREATURE FEATURE

THE EXORCIST

The film that transformed an obscure Church ritual into a sought after global profession

MV5BNzYwMDA0NTA3M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDcwNDY3Mg@@._V1._SX338_SY500__resized

by Samuel E. Warren Jr.

In my lifetime from October 1955 through mid-December 1973,in the United States, if you needed an “Exorcist”, you would have few real options.

You could buy a plane ticket to go to the Vatican and try to convince a priest or the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy.

You could try and find someone who knew a root worker or conjurer in New Orleans, Louisiana, who might be willing to help you.

You could try and contact someone who had a friend, who lived out in San Francisco, California and was into “The New Age Movement.”

If you seriously needed an “Exorcist” before 1973, in the United States, you really had to look under every stone to find one and hope you could find someone who had an understanding priest in the Roman Catholic Church, who would take you seriously enough to actually look for an “exorcist.”

The Real Deal Exorcists

William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, “The Exorcist,” had aspects that were inspired by the actual Exorcism of Roland Doe in Maryland in 1949. Jesuit Priest, Father William S. Bowdern and Father Walter Halloran were the real exorcists.

There have been television shows that talked about the original exorcism and one fact all seemed to agree on is the family basically had to beg the church for an exorcism. The practice of exorcisms had become essentially a ritual that had been left in the past.

The “resurrected” ritual of exorcism did much not only for The Church, but for all churches. William Friedkin’s film, “The Exorcist” based on Blatty’s novel put God back up on the marquee that got people going back to all kinds of churches, temples, synagogues and mosque because Satan was real again.

Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Omen” were child demonic films of the late 1960s and early 1970s that also got people’s attention.

What always got me about “The Exorcist” was how such a “normal” little girl could be possessed ?

Effective Evil Effects

There were no Hollywood Computer Generated Images for movies in the 1970s, production and special effects people had to do create the effects the old fashioned way ‘– “They had to be creative.” Now, people smile at the “pea soup” that gets shot out of Regan’s mouth in the movie, but, it was one of those “Wow” moments in theaters in the 1970s.

The fashion sense, or lack there of, of the 1970s does much to make a film look dated, but, the story, the actors, actresses and effects did such a magnificent job Regan MacNeil, the possessed girl, is one of those Halloween characters in the shadow between vampires, mummies, Frankenstein and zombies that no one wants to think about because she just might be “The Real Deal after all.”

Face it, no one wants to have to tell their father or mother, “We won’t be coming home for Christmas because your granddaughter is possessed by Satan.”

The real fear of The Exorcist movie is that maybe, just maybe, your child could be possessed by Evil. The movie really does turn that parental fear into the worst case scenario by the use of suspense and the creative use of effects. It is little wonder why this movie has become an American Cult Classic.

You factor in the notion that you have a veteran priest, who has dealt with and faced Evil at various times and is ready for the battle. Then, you add the young doubting priest to the mix, who believes he is more “a man of science” than “a man of the cloth.” Basically, he let the Church pay for his education, so he could become a successful psychiatrist. Stepping into the ring, Satan has the upper hand and the odds are all in His favor.

Temptation Of Teenagers ?

Ellen Burstyn, who plays the actress mother, wants the best for her daughter. Linda Blair, who plays Regan Mac Neil, the daughter, is the average All-American Girl for the 1970s.

I grew up on a hog farm in the conservative Midwest of the United States of America, known as the Ozarks, right smack dab in “The Bible Belt.” My family, friends and neighbors went to the Baptists and Pentecostal churches. Some crossed the line into Taney County to go to Branson or into Greene County to go to Catholic churches, Lutheran, Methodists and Presbyterians.

The preachers and pastors of Stone County, Missouri took their “hellfire and damnation” lessons to heart and knew they were the First Line Of Defense against Satan and His Demonic Legions.

Thus, in the Ozarks and the Midwest, you never expected to see Satan walking down the highway or shopping for groceries in the local supermarket. But, in the 1960s or 1970s, if you are writing a story, script or play – how would you get Satan or any of his demons to realistically appear in the literary work ?

Demon Dare

As decadent and liberal minded as New York City was suppose to be in the 1960s and 1970s; there had to be a way to get Evil into the script and the movie. The All-American Fall Guy – the Ouija Board.

In the US, in the 1960s and 1970s, it seemed there were only two real ways for Evil to show up. Teenagers had to figure out some way to do “Satanic Rituals” or go to the store and pretend to be nave enough to buy and use a Ouija Board.

In this film, the Ouija Board is the culprit that is “The Three Mile Island” incident that starts demonic radiation leaking into the MacNeil home and poor Regan glows with it.

Use of the Ouija Board, helps explain how an East African demon gets through US Customs without a passport and visa. Then, again The Department Of Homeland Security is a story that doesn’t happen until the beginning of the 21st Century.

Max von Sydow, who stars in the role of Father Lankester Merrin really does come across as the devout veteran priest, who is ready to stare the demon in the eye and send it back to Hell.

Jason Miller as Father Damien Karras does an excellent job as the young priest, who really believes he is a long lost psychiatrist in his soul. One of the story twist is suppose to have the young priest broken up about his mother’s death. I didn’t get the message in 1973 and I haven’t gotten it since.

On screen the first time you see the aging, invalid mother, the film mom is sort of already a citizen of “The Twilight Zone” looking to move into “The Outer Limits.” Without more details or a back story to show the mother and son relationship, that story line to me wastes film. I’m a Momma’s Boy, so I’m critical.

Actor Titos Vandis, in the role of the young priest’s uncle works with Miller to pull off the story line, but, that is an area where I believe the movie falters and probably gets forgotten about in the overall bouts with the demon. In this movie, the mom character was dead before she was written into the script and she seems just as dead up on the screen.

Exorcist Era Excitement

This is the movie that “Really Did Start It All.” The obscure term, “exorcist” smoldering in the Vatican archives, “purified” the way for an American religious revival in Catholic and Protestant Churches and created battalions of televangelists and legions of lay (and lame) exorcists throughout the globe.

Satanic Seventies ?

The ongoing, relentless, never-ending Vietnam War had made young Americans jaded, cynical and skeptical. Grandparents and parents looked at the grandchildren and children and wondered if maybe “alien astronauts” had abducted” and switched their kids because “The Generation Gap” was the real deal.

Generations of Americans spoke English to one another in their homes and yet the message was like “A Day At The United Nations Without Translators “ – No one understood ‘nuthin’.

America’s politicians in the 1960s were the kind of leaders that people rushed to build statues to. By the 1970s, Americans politicians seemed to be like “used car dealers that you couldn’t get rid of.”

The Godfathers

America had the traditional movie and sports celebrities of their generation in the early 1970s, but, the “Godfather” movies did “the kinder, gentler dance” for Organized Crime. J. Edgar Hoover had gotten long in the tooth and the organized crime bosses of America had their own brash, public style that had to be the envy of America’s “stale bread politicians of the early 1970s.”

While American underworld figures weren’t holding their daily press conferences at their mansions, they were out and about and people couldn’t get enough of their exploits in the streets of America. The irony is the Crime Rate in America was pushing people to believe “Vigilante Justice” might not be such a bad solution as long as you don’t get caught. “Dirty Harry” had become the ideal lawman of America.

Nix on Nixon

Nixon had no use for the American news media and the American news media had no use for Nixon, other than the political cartoonists, who thrived on daily demonizing his facial features.

After Watergate, nothing Nixon said really mattered. The press didn’t seem to believe a word he said and his approval rating with the American public dropped faster than a bad day in the stock market.

Then, of course, Men in America actually got to wear something other than white shirts and black ties. Unfortunately, the Men’s Fashion Scene of the 1970s “overdosed” America’s fashion sense – too much, too soon. Wide ties, wide lapels, bright colors for men’s suits, white belts, white shoes, hounds tooth sport coats thrown into the mix with polyester and wide collars on mien’s shirts. Plus, there was the jogging suits to wear, even if you never intended to go jogging. And denim flared jeans and denim flared bell bottoms were still on the drawing board for the seventies fashion scene.

The early 1970s had America’s scurrying like mice on an exercise wheel – they just weren’t sure where they were suppose to be running to.

Demonic Days

If you look back at 1973, you wonder if someone on Satan’s staff had decided to literally “set the stage” leading up to the release of “The Exorcist.”

January 22, 1973 – US Supreme Court rules on Roe versus Wade and overturns states’ bans on abortion.

The Vietnam War “Officially Ends” January 27, 1973 with the signing of the Paris Peace Accords. Nixon tries to take credit for the peace agreement. The American news media and many Americans actually see Dr. Henry Kissinger, America’s First Jewish Secretary Of State as the man who got the deal.

November 5, 1973, the term, “Shuttle Diplomacy” entered the American culture and described the efforts that Secretary of State Kissinger made in the Middle East at the end of the Yom Kippur War to help keep the region stable.

Despite Secretary Kissinger’s hard work to keep the Arab states and Israel living in a somewhat peaceful existence – some religious critics started shouting that Secretary Kissinger could be, “The Anti-Christ.”

March 29, 1973, the last United States soldier leaves Vietnam.

May 17, 1973, I wear the cap and gown and graduate from Galena High School, Galena, Missouri. It should have been a proud moment for God and Satan. It was a proud moment for me. By June, I was in college at the School Of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri.,

The US bombing of Cambodia ends June 1.

July 12, 1973 – The National Archives Fire – The entire 6th floor of the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis Missouri is destroyed by a fire. Countless US Navy and US Army records are lost, which will affect World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War military people and their families for generations to come in the area of honorable discharges, military retirement pay and documentation of earned and awarded military decorations.

Egyptian and Syrian military forces attack Israel, September 11, 1973, to start the “Yom Kippur War,” in the Sinai Pennisula and the Golan Heights. I am working at KSOZ-FM, to work my way through college. I look through the large plastic window at the huge gray Associated Press teletype thrusting down the keys to announce the start of the War. I’m excited about the story.

I rip off the yellow sheet of news copy and hand it to someone in the newsroom. They nod and comment, “Another War in the Middle East.”

I understand now, why no one rushed to get it “on air” as breaking news. It was the 1970s, and there was always bad news coming out of the Middle East.

I saw the War as a possible start to “Armageddon.” Everyone else in the newsroom just saw it as more bad news from the Middle East to be read after the day’s latest Watergate story.

The Yom Kippur War ends October 26, 1973.

October 10, 1973, “The Saturday Night Massacre,” Richard Milhouse “Tricky Dick” Nixon fires Special Watergate Prosecutor Archibald Cox and Deputy Attorney General William D. Ruckelshaus.

No matter What Nixon did – The Watergate Break-In June 17, 1972 – would not go away and each day’s newspaper brought a new “Watergate” headline in the continuing scandal.

By December 23, 1973, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, had doubled the price of crude oil at the pumps – just in time for “Christmas.”

American theaters flip the switch and Warner Brothers “The Exorcist “ flickers on to movie screens December 26, 1973.

By November 1979, Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini labeled “America, The Great Satan: in a speech. Khomeini was the 1970s version of Al Quaeda’s Osama bin Laden.

In the early 1960s, Khomeini used his criticism of the Shah of Iran Pahlavi to rise to power among his Muslim followers. The Shah exiled him and he spent more than 14 years in exile between Paris, Turkey and Iraq. Khomeini did not like that the United States Government had close relations with Iran and that the Shah had moved to modernize Iran.

When you look back at 1973, it seems like God had gotten dropped off for church bingo and Americans weren’t sure if they were going to pick Him up or hand Him His “Pink Slip.”

Satan At The Box Office

The film brought in $66.3 million from theaters in the United States and Canada. It currently stands as “The Top Grossing R Rated Film Of All Time.”

The Exorcist” movie proved to be the “shakeup” that got God back in His penthouse and kept Him on as the CEO Of Heaven. “The Exorcist” woke up and scared Americans.

Before the movie appeared in theaters, many Americans were like Actor Lee J. Cobb in the role of New York City Police Department Detective Lieutenant William F. Kinderman, something is wrong and you just can’t put your finger on it.

The approach worked for Cobb’s detective’s role in the movie and outside the theater in the streets of America, “something was wrong and no one knew how to put a finger on it.”

The Medical Men

Arthur Storch, in the role of the psychiatrist and Barton Haymen as Dr. Samuel Klein are the classic American “Medical Men” of the 1970s, “Of course, Science has an answer for it.” But, when Regan’s condition doesn’t respond to medical treatment, one of the doctors blurts out something about an “exorcist.”

The time devoted to the “Science” and “Medicine”approach in the movie is smart because by the 1970s doctors and scientists had taken to their academic pulpits and “preached” to anyone who would listen that science and medicine would find the cure for all the ills of humanity.

America’s New Prophets

America’s Psychiatrist were on a roll. Sigmund Freud had got them out into the limelight. People seemed hungry for the latest development from the psychiatric world. Hollywood didn’t let the fad pass by; they cranked out movies as fast as they could about doctors and psychiatrist saving the day.

Psychiatrists were America’s New Prophets. It did seem doctors, scientists and psychiatrist had an answer for everything.

The Supernatural” remained the chink in the psychiatrist’s armor. The responses of : “superstition”, “imagination”, and “all in your mind” worked until something happened before your eyes.

Find An Exorcist In The Yellow Pages

Before the movie, your best bet to find an “exorcist” would be to seek permission to search the Vatican archives for a vague reference to an “exorcist.”

After the movie, “Exorcists In America were thicker than hairs on a dog’s back.” At the current rate of growth in a few years America will probably be turning out as many exorcists as we do lawyers and doctors.

No doubt, none of the televangelists of the 1970s and 1980s will ever give “The Exorcist,” “Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Omen,” or any of the other religious horror TV or movie spin-offs an honorable mention, but without “The Hounding Hell Horror Of The Satanic Silver Screen,” some of those preachers would of stayed on cable TV and still be going through the Ozarks trying to arrange “Brush Arbor Revivals” and church pie suppers.

A 21st Century Exorcist ?

Hollywood is silly if they don’t already have plans to do an updated version to compliment, but not compete with the original movie.

A new version could not compete because Linda Blair’s Regan MacNeil character had her unique unspoken, “I’m not going away. . .ever” look, near the end of the movie.

The silly 1970s wardrobe makes “The Exorcist” dated, but, hey, even in the 1970s, “We had to wear clothes.”

Casting Directors – Stellan Skarsgard has earned the right to be Father Merrin in an updated version. In Dominion: Prequel To The Exorcist,” Mr. Skarsgard became the role. In “Exorcist:The Beginning”, he became Father Lankester Merrin, Roman Catholic Archaeologist Priest.

Now, if the Department of Motor Vehicles could just get Mr. Skarsgard ‘s name on his new license right and the Vatican would quit sending him offers for another exorcism overseas.

Darling Demonologists”

In another more contemporary version, it would be nice if the screenwriter could write in a way to bring in a senior ranking demon with more established credentials in religious history, which would allow for even more suspense, special effects and (probably) a bigger budget.

And, since the “Name Of The Game Is Horror”, a senior ranking demon could up the on screen body count to stress the possibility that today’s dog walker shouldn’t count on being tomorrow’s “Darling Demonologist.”

Exorcist 2013 Script Session

Quick, get Warner Brothers on the phone. I’ve got it.

Camera Fade In: Regan’s granddaughter graduates from Oxford and returns to the US to visit “granny.” They are doing the girl, “shoot the breeze” conversation routine. Suddenly, Regan’s youngest granddaughter comes up out of the basement with something in her hands.

You guessed it, America!

Sometimes the old literary devices are the best. All together now, “Ouija Board !”

They chuckle. Of course, granny has had a wonderful life and completely forgot about the initial possession (and probably The Exorcist” spin-off movies after the original).

They open the box, take out the board and begin to play.

Too late “Granny” remembers.

The granddaughter is now “possessed.”

Granny whips out her cell phone hoping that she still has an exorcist priest on speed dial.

The granddaughter does her contortions routine, while the youngest granddaughter jumps up and down screaming.

From here on out. . .it is up to the Hollywood screen writers. You guys and gals run with it. But, go for a demon, who usually gets top billing, with “name recognition.”

Exorcists Resurrection

The Vatican is now admitting, “Exorcists exist” and is training them. Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, a group of British school girls seem to be blurring the line between Fact,Faith, Fantasy and Fiction.

Based on the “Darling Demonologists” ages, someone should hand them an old mystic text and point to the section on teenagers, hormones and, “Oh, Look ! Puberty and Poltergeist ?”

Five Star Rating

The Exorcist” is an American Cult Classic, as it should be. Hands down I give it a Five Star Rating and remind viewers it carries an R rating.

For your Halloween viewing this is definitely a movie to watch on All Hollow’s Eve or the night before.

Incidentally, when you swing by Wal-Mart to pick up your Twizler’s and Junior Mints, you might want to make a quick stop at the church to make sure you have a crucifix and rosary beads handy. May, as well pick up a little Holy Water. . .to be safe.

Sam

Flag_of_the_United_Nations.svgEvery man and woman on planet earth should be free of the fear of terrorism.

Terrorists are the Cancer Of Humanity.

Scientists and medical researchers search for a cure to the various forms of Cancer.

Courage Is The Terrorist Cancer Cure

Every man, woman and child on planet earth has the cure for the Cancer Of Terrorists – Courage.

Courage like air is hard to see, taste, smell or test for. But, like air, courage I everywhere. The key with using Courage to cure terrorism is to be willing to be creative in the careful application of the solution. You can use your courage to battle terrorist.

The resistance fighters of World War II devised ways to humbly and covertly overcome the Nazis. Your greatest weapon is your mind. Use your common sense to triumph over the bullies and thugs, who grow up to be terrorists.

Every child should be able to use his or her ingenuity to triumph over the school bully.

Thus, every man and woman should be able to think of a way to expose a terrorist to the proper authority.

Acknowledged National Interests

Every nation in the world has an agenda and interests to pursue; the terrorist is always a threat to citizens and the nation that can be dealt with effectively and efficiently.

International Anti-Terrorist Day

October 9 should become the International Anti-Terrorism Day. On October 9, 2012, two armed terrorists gun men stopped a school bus and shot three schoolgirls at point blank range. The Taliban terrorists’ group admits to meeting to decide to issue the “Kill Order” on a 14-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl.

The terrorists gun men squeezed the trigger, but, other terrorists groups and individuals had supplied them with the weapons, training and money to carry out the heinous act to assassinate a child.

I would suggest all nations observe October 9 as International Anti-Terrorist Day. Naturally, all nations will have their own priorities, thus, they may decide to choose another date and observe that day as a National Anti-Terrorist Day or promote it as their nation’s date to observe International Anti-Terrorist Day.

Real Victims, Real Symbols Of Terrorists

Malala Yousafzai and her wounded girlfriends are now immortal symbols that cowardly thugs and bullies are an infectious blight on the soul of humanity. Legions of unknown and unnamed children have been misused and abused since time began, but, responsible people always try to protect the children that they might have a future.

Everyone Is A Terrorist Target

When the terrorists squeezed the trigger, they acknowledged that two-thirds of the human population were simply their targets. No woman and no child is no longer safe from the psychotic, sadistic lust for murder in the heart of a terrorist. When the terrorists fired at the frightened children they acknowledged, that now that children and women were legitimate targets of assassination, essentially every man, woman and child is a terrorist target. No one is safe.

United Nations Resolution

All nations can agree that terrorism is a threat. All nations can agree to protect their own domestic and foreign sovereignty to overcome a persistent threat of global terrorism. All nations should be able to agree to sign a short United Nations Resolution that identifies them as a nation that will never rest until the terrorists lie down their weapons or learn to live in virtual isolation afraid of human contact.

463px-Emblem_of_the_United_Nations.svg

Global Terrorism Definition Change Suggestion

Every nation and government on the planet can agree terrorist are a threat. Every nation and government on the planet can agree they need to take action to stop and decrease that threat. How the nations and governments of the world take that action should always be their sovereign right.

I would humbly suggest the nations consider looking at their legal codes. Legal systems are designed to punish criminals and protect citizens. A terrorist is a creature that should not be considered human. Humans have rights.

Terrorists throughout history have demonstrated they are some being that respects only death, destruction and a continuing state of chaos. The legal change to the letter of the law to identify a terrorists as something as other than human would allow governments more flexibility in the persecution and prosecution of terrorists.

Of course, legal scholars will help to prevent dissidents and opposition political party candidates as being classified as terrorists/

The global legal systems of planet earth should review their laws on terrorism.

Terrorists Legal Precedent Change Suggestion

I would recommend the following statement as a starting point:

A terrorists is anyone, who uses a bomb, in a time of peace, to destroy people or property.

A bomb is a device intended only to create death, destruction and create a sense of terror and fear. A bomb is a device that will always kill, maim or injure more people that it was intended due to the scientific and physical laws that explain the blast, concussion, fragmentation and fallout from the initial explosion. In peacetime, a bomb should always be considered the primary weapon of the terrorist.

Individual Citizen’s Responsibility

We all live on planet earth. We have the right to feel a certain sense of peace in our person and in our homes.

Governments can only do so much to protect you from bullies, thugs and terrorists. Each person to be at peace in their own mind and needs to find a way to triumph over the bully, thug and terrorist.

World Wonder Warriors

FEED ICON BUTTONEvery man, woman and child on planet earth who has access to a cell phone or a laptop can text, email or forward a copy of this article or lines of text to their friends, family members, elected officials and colleagues.

October 9 is my suggested date for the International Anti-Terrorist Day.

The important thing is to get people pro-active to resist the bullies and thugs of life than grow into terrorists.

Every person on planet earth should feel honored to be alive.

Microsoft Word - web 2.0 logos.doc

No one should ever make you feel terror or fear at getting out of bed in the morning.

imagesWe may all seem meek and mild-mannered, but, we all have the right to feel as though we should be able to rip open our shirts and be the heroes and heroines that stand up to the Terrorists Of The World.

We owe it to ourselves and our families to be World Wonder Warriors. The true War On Terror needs to start with every man, woman and child on planet earth, who are tired of being bullied and the victim of thugs, who feed off their fear and terror.

Time to text on the cell phones. index

Time to email on the laptops.

Time to stand up to The Terrorists Of The World and let them know The World Wonder Warriors will find a way to deliver the terrorists to Justice.

The Little Things

Sometimes the most innocent of acts can reveal a terrorist to the authorities or the terrorist to his or her enemies. Decide in the privacy of your own mind what act you believe will reveal the terrorist and then be careful when you decide to act.

Likewise, we should not have to fear the bullies and thugs that grow up to be terrorist. Children should feel safe to tell a teacher, administrator or adult if another child is trying to bully or hurt him or her. Stop the bullies in grade school and high school and there will be fewer people to recruit into terrorists.

Individual citizens should find a covert way to report a suspected terrorist to the proper authorities.

Terrorists Threat Truly Global

Terrorists are a real threat to every citizen on the planet.

In business, sometimes, people may not be aware that their goods, products, services or money is going to support a terrorist or terrorist group.

If you suspect someone you have dealt with is a terrorist, then, remember: Malala and her girlfriends, who got shot on the school bus, could of just as easily have been your daughter,

Terrorists Are Traitors And Cowards

Terrorists are friends to no one. Terrorists stand ready to “betray” their own friends. The Taliban offered to turn Osama bin Laden, the terrorists ‘Al Qaeda leader, over to his enemies.

One news report revealed that when Osama bin Laden was cornered he grabbed one of his four wives in an attempt to use her as a “human shield.”

Osama bin Laden had the bravado to pose aiming an AK-7 in a photo and, yet, in a close quarters situation the best reaction that he could come up with was to “hide behind his wife’s skirt ?”

In Texas, using your wife to stop a bullet is the act of a coward.

In Missouri, using your wife to stop a bullet is the act of a coward.

Most places in the world, using your wife to stop a bullet is the act of a coward.

Terrorists Are “Phony Phreedom Phighters”

A terrorist is a friend to no one.

A terrorist is not a freedom fighter. A terrorist is not a resistance movement leader. Freedom fighters and resistance movement operatives have objectives that can be achieved to end a war. A terrorist wants chaos and a constant state of war to thrive to keep people in fear and terror.

A terrorist is a parasite that feeds off human fear and terror to find any excitement or meaning in his or her life.

A terrorist is a killing machine that respects no one and nothing.

A terrorist live to create terror and promote a climate of fear that will have people afraid to sleep at night and walk down the street in sunlight.

Ban Bullies, Thwart Thugs, Trample Terrorists

No one in the world should ever feel bullied by another person. No one in the world should ever feel the victim of a thug. Everyone should be able to find a molecule of courage to reveal a terrorist to the authorities or to an enemy of a terrorist.

Diligence and perseverance through the years and generations will turn the mass multitude of bullies and thugs in army surplus uniforms from units of trained killers into the recognized cold-blooded killers in costumes that they are. Once the propaganda is stripped away, then, the terrorist can be seen as the “kill crazy” creature he or she really is.

Know Your Enemy

Terrorist organizations are the enemies of people, who simply want to live and enjoy their lives and families. Always keep an eye open for information on terrorists organizations. You may not want to bury yourself in a mountain of research everyday, but when you have the time talk to friends, listen to the news, use your mind and decide what to watch out for.

Since I enjoy helping trying to make my readers’ lives more interesting, informative and entertaining, I offer you the links to information on Global Terrorists Organizations Of The World. Those links are at the end or the article, which I call my “Rat Finks File.”

In the 1960s, people who pretended to be friends and then would “rat out” their friends were called, “Rat Finks.” I can’t imagine bigger Global Rat Finks than terrorists, thus, check out the links of “The Rat Finks File.”

Celebrate Global Humanity October 9, 2013

October 9, 2013 – Citizens Of The World should either be dancing in the streets of their nation’s capitols or enjoying local public celebrations to point out how many terrorists are now in jail, facing prosecution or (some places in the world) “sleeping with the fishes.”

International Anti-Terrorist Day Slogan Suggestion

Eventually, countries, will have their own national and local slogans to combat terrorists. The world is full of creative and imaginative people, who love to stand up to bullies, thugs and terrorists.

Until then, if your International Anti-Terrorist Day needs a slogan, feel free to use this Samuel E. Warren Jr., original slogan:

No home, hut or out house on planet earth will ever be safe for a terrorist.”

–Samuel E. Warren Jr.

Think of how pretty that slogan will look in needlepoint next to the “Home Sweet Home” you hang above the fireplace mantel.
