Warren Land

White Christmas 2009

Christmas Eve at Warren Land meant watching the clock. There is about a 13-hour time difference between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines.

The imaginary line that circles the globe called, The International Date Line, means that the Warrens of Missouri and the Saldanas of Leyte are always taking into account sunrise and sunset on two different continents: the United States and the Republic of the Philippines.

Christy watched the clock and waited by the computer. It was Christmas morning, on the island of Leyte. Fe, her sister, Rafael and Ramon, her two brothers, and their families, went to an Internet Cafe to contact the USA.

Thanks to Yahoo Messenger and webcams, Christy talked to her family members back in the Philippines. Around 11:30 p.m., Christmas Eve in Missouri, I noticed that there was already some snow on the ground. I scooped up some snow to show them via the webcam because snow is rare in the Philippines.

By around 10 a.m., Christmas morning in Missouri, Warren Land is covered in a white blanket of snow. My two loyal cannine companions, Sarge and Goldie were ready for me to grab my camera and go out to shoot snow photos.
